tions a constant (1). If now these conditions are all complied with, but in addition some new factor is introduced, the effect on the rate of urea excretion can be measured by the deviation of the ratio from its constant value. Most of the experiments given in this paper were carried out on the two subjects, Add. and Dru., whose ratios under standard conditions are given in Paper V of this series (1). For Add. the average ratio was 46.1 with a variability of f6.9 per cent, and for Dru. the average was 56.2 with a variability of f4.8 per cent. But some of our experiments on Dru. were carried out under conditions which differed from those we have called “standard” in that no urea was given. In these experiments the blood urea concentration was at a low level so that any error in the technique of the blood urea determinations would have a relatively greater effect on the ratio than in the experiments in which the blood urea concentration had been increased by urea administration. The method was, therefore, reexamined and a modification, used only in these experiments, was introduced which probably

The Rate of Urea Excretion. Iii. the Effect of Changes in Blood Urea Concentration on the Rate of Urea Excretion. by T. Addis and C. K. Watanabe
On one side of the urea-secreting cells of the kidney there is blood and on the other side there is urine. The rate of urea excretion is the rate at which these cells transfer urea from blood to urine. Under these circumstances it seems probable that changes in the concentration of urea in the ,blood will have an effect on the rate of urea excretion. If the concentration of urea in the blood we...
متن کاملUrea Tests of Renal Efficiency. I. by I. M. Rabinowitch
The urea tests of renal efficiency commonly mentioned in the literature include (a) simple estimation of blood urea concentration, (b) determination of urine urea concentration following ingestion of urea, and (c) observations on the relationship between blood and urine urea concentrations. From a comparative study of these three methods, the general conclusion reached in this hospital (1) was ...
متن کاملUsing blood urea nitrogen to predict nitrogen excretion and efficiency of nitrogen utilization in cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, and rats.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the potential for using blood urea N concentration to predict urinary N excretion rate, and to develop a mathematical model to estimate important variables of N utilization for several different species of farm animals and for rats. Treatment means (n = 251) from 41 research publications were used to develop mathematical relationships. There was a s...
متن کاملEffect of Dietary Crude Protein Level on UT-B Expression and Nitrogen Efficiency in Growing Baluchi Male Lambs Fed Low or High Concentrate Diets
An experiment was carried out to evaluate how interactions between forage to concentrate ratio and dietary crude protein level may alter nitrogen efficiency and UT-B expression in growing Baluchi male lambs. Four Baluchi male lambs [30 ± 2 kg BW] were used in a 4 × 4 latin square design with 28-d periods and a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments. The treatments fed forage: concent...
متن کاملThe Effect on the Rate of Urea Excretion of Carmine Deposition in the Cells of the Renal Tubules
The evidence that urea is present in high concentration in the cells of the convoluted tubules of the kidney and is passing through these cells has been reviewed. Following the deposition of a large amount of carmine in the cells of the convoluted tubules the rate of urea excretion, as measured by the relation of the rate of urea excretion to the blood urea concentration, is increased. This is ...
